3.4 Perform a group dance (4 Credits - Internal)

Activity one
Choreographic intention

The choreographer discussed the intention of this piece being based around his mother. He explained to us how she became very ill and in the time she and him grew a closer bond between them, he told us she old him many family secrets and story and the way he felt when she shared those things with him, and only him. This piece is a dance that focuses on working together and unity within the dancers. The word Manawa can mean breath or heart, both of these tie in with the intention of the dance.
To create this piece several sections were created by both ourselves as dancers and the choreographer. The first thing we were to do is read through our messages/emails and selected words/phrases to create a small paragraph. From there we used this paragraph to choreograph a short phrase. Developing this phrase in a small group was next. We then were taught another small piece of choreography. We were performing this dance in year groups so as a year group we then create and small unicon section before creating moves around the ideas of spine, bird and flock keeping in mind to use choreographic devices such as levels, unicon and canon. Lastly we were to create a small piece based around the idea of staying in a box/square shape.
When performing this dance i enhanced the idea by keeping my focus where it should be and not having wandering eyes. Also when i needed to walk or move to another position i would do it confidently. Another thing I did to enhance the intention was not stopping the flow of the dance, as the choreographer told us that at no point in the dance should everyone be frozen at the same time. Also keeping in unicon when necessary played a major role in enhancing the idea.
